My Favourite Places to Eat in Belfast

Welcome to my first blog! In this blog, I will be informing you all about the places you can go for food in Belfast. I am a University student from Donegal living in Belfast. Moving to Belfast from my small home town in Donegal was a dream for a foodie like myself. There are so many amazing places to eat here in Belfast and I will share some of my favorite finds. Being a student, eating out regularly is not exactly the most cost-effective lifestyle choice! But like many other students, sometimes you find yourself wanting a break from cooking every evening and quite simply to treat yourself to some delicious food.

One of my first and absolute favourite finds here in Belfast was Kanto, which is situated in Stranmilis. Kanto is an Asian takeaway with an arrangement of delicious and healthy meals on their menu. I ordered the Kanto Teriyaki with chicken. You get a choice of chicken, prawns or vegetables in a sweet and salty soy sauce with a hint of ginger. Served with steamed rice, stir-fry brocolli, beans, cabbage and garnished with seasame seeds. This dish was 502kcal and had 33.6g protein. All Kantos main dishes total at £8.50 and £6.50 between lunch hours of 12-3. All Kantos dishes are low in calories and high in protein, this information can be found on Kantos menu in the store itself and on their website. It is also on Uber Eats and Deliveroo making it extremely convenient. This a great option for students wanting a healthy and filling meal that doesn’t break the bank.

Now for a slightly less healthy option, but extremely delicious and filling is Boojum. There are four Boojums in Belfast. There is one in Great Victoria Street, Botanic Avenue, Victoria Square Shopping Centre and Lisburn Road. Boojum is a Mexican restaurant, with an array of prepared food which makes ordering quick and easy! Their main dish options are Burritos, Burrito bowls, Fajitas, Fajita bowls and Salads. I personally go for a Burrito bowl with Mexican rice, pepper, chicken, salsa, lettuce and guacamole. I prefer to get the bowl as it's easy to carry around for lunch and makes saving leftovers a lot easier. All main meals start from £7.79 with some extras costing more. This is a great price in my opinion as they give good portion sizes.

For a quick bite to eat, I enjoy heading to Caffe Nero. I often go there during my hour breaks between lectures or during my days off to get my assignments done. There are multiple Caffe Neros all over Belfast so it is never hard to stumble upon one. They have a selection of sandwiches and croissants that you can get toasted which are very tasty! They also have pastas and tray bakes, all ready made, again making this a very convenient spot to get food as a student. I usually go for the 5 cheese and roasted tomato tostati which is sourdough bread with mature Cheddar, Mozzarella, Regato, Mascarpone and Red cheddar topped with roasted baby plum tomatoes. This costs £4.55 and is 406kcal.

If you are feeling like really treating yourself an amazing option is Nico’s Pizzeria Restaurant which is situated on Lisburn Road. Nico’s is an Italian restaurant with a fantastic menu filled with Pizza, Pasta, and mouthwatering desserts. For starters I shared a platter of dough balls with spicy mayo which were delicious. For my main, I got the Carbonnara made with cream, egg yolk and smoked bacon. The meal was beautiful, as well as the restaurant itself. It totalled to £18.50, the carbonara was £11.50, the dough balls were £5 and the garlic bread was £2. It is a fantastic restaurant to go to with a group of friends as you are guaranteed great food and a great atmosphere.
